More Photos: Tawharanui, Kawau

More photos, this time from & of the Tawharanui Peninsula, another one of my favorite places.

First a little orientation – Tawharanui is just south of Pakiri, shown here –

These first few shots are taken at Anchor Bay, on the northern side of the Tawharanui Peninsula. Little Barrier Island is in the distance.

The next few shots are taken from the point marked with the “+” in the map above, at the top of the hill between Leigh and Pakiri, looking southeast towards Tawharanui. In the close-ups you can see Kawau Island on the other side of the peninsula -

(not sure what the shadow is)

Then from the same point, the next two shots swing a little further south towards Omaha Beach just north of the peninsula (not an especially clear day, but notice Rangitoto Island in the far distance).

And finally from the same point, this shot looks a little further east towards Leigh.

The next few photos are taken from the southern side of the peninsula (the point marked on the map with a “ * “) looking towards Kawau Island, starting from the northern end of the island and sweeping down to Mansion House Bay at the southern end.

I have to say I was pretty impressed with this shot. This is Mansion House Bay at the southern end of Kawau. Not bad resolution considering I was standing some 7km away. That’s the Kawau ferry sitting alongside the wharf in front of the Mansion House, and a yacht sitting behind her.

These shots were taken from the same point, but looking directly south just below the hill I was standing on. This is a similar sized boat to mine (but heavier – this appears to be a Finn), and this is pretty much in the same vicinity where I sometimes sail myself – on his own in the middle of Kawau Bay – good stuff! Interestingly, the close up shows he is sailing a boat that originated from Australia.
