It occurs to me that most of my family in NZ really don’t have much of a mental picture of the world I live in here in the US. So on my way to work a couple of days ago I took some photos from the car while I was driving. Very ordinary shots, but they give a small glimpse of the environment here…
One of the things I really like about the Chicago suburbs is that it’s very green, as you can see in these first few shots. We’re a couple of weeks into fall, so trees are beginning to change color. It always amazes me that the landscape can be so different in winter. In a couple of months these scenes will look very different. The first two shots here are part of the route I take when I go running. This is Deerpath Road, and, yes, I have actually once passed a deer while running down this road!
There are two things people say about the Chicago climate. One is that Chicago has two seasons – winter and winter’s coming. The other is that Chicago has two season’s, winter and road construction. Here’s some evidence. This work on Quentin Rd has been going on for months.
NZ friends may find this one interesting. Note the price of gas, following the huge price increases of the last few months – $2.86/gallon. That’s about NZ$1.08/litre. I doubt NZer’s would have much sympathy for us in the US. Back home the price is currently about NZ$1.49/litre.
And just a couple of other random shots of no great significance.
